Our beloved father, Donald Lee McHone, 85, passed away Feb. 2, 2018, surrounded by family. He was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Grover McHone and Mary Zimmer McHone.
At the age of 12, he moved with his family to Albany, California. He later attended Albany High School. Upon graduating in 1951, Donald joined the military, serving in the U.S. Air Force as a valued and respected crew chief. In 1955, he returned to Albany, where he owned a highly successful service station and was a trusted mechanic. He eventually moved to Twain Harte and then Jamestown.
Donald enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeling, camping, bowling and, most of all, spending time with his family and large group of friends. He cherished the Sierras and passed that love down to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid 49er fan and was honored by the team as one of the oldest season ticket holders. Donald was a devoted supporter of St. John the Baptist School as well as Salesian High School. His many volunteer hours were appreciated.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Sylvia McHone; his children, Vicki (Ron), Pam (Kent), Rick (Rose), Kelly (Dan), Patrick (Martha) and Daniel (Susanne). He leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Brody (Ashley), Scott, Brent (Carrie), Kevin, Kelsi, Sean, Cale, Logan, Nathan, Lewis and Terra.
He was dearly loved by his siblings, JoAnn, Pat (Steve), Colleen (Frank), Mike (Judy), Dan (Linda) and Dennis (Nancy). He will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his brother, Dick; and his brother-in-law, John.
A celebration of his life will be held from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Albany Park.
Donations may be made in his name to Sutter Roseville Medical Center Foundation-hospice
