Joan Brien Henderson passed away peacefully at home in Elk Grove, surrounded by family. Joan was born Aug. 21, 1934, to L. B. “Doc” and Jane Lamasney, in Oakland, California. Joan married the love of her life, the late David Charles Henderson on Aug. 10, 1958.
Joan was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Grammar School in Alameda, Alameda High School, and the College of Holy Names in Oakland. She was very involved in the Catholic Church as eucharistic minister, Parish Council member, lector, and received the St. George Medal for Catholic Scouting. A Jill-of-all-trades and master of none, Joan worked as a lifeguard, office manager, librarian, elementary school teacher, banker, and receptionist for the Forest Service. Joan was a lifetime member of the Tuolumne County Historical Society .
She is survived by her brother, Michael Vinet Lamasney; and her beloved children, Charles Wayne Henderson (Colleen), John Lisker Henderson, Thomas Vinet Henderson (Carol), Mary Brien Henderson; her loving grandchildren, Lauren Kathleen Henderson, Mary Margaret “Maggie” Henderson, Bailey Richardson Stephens, Molly Ann Brien Henderson, Michael Lance Molinari; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Peter David Lamasney; and her daughter, Anne Caroline Henderson.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb 23, at All Saints Catholic Church, in Twain Harte. A celebration of life mass will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 24, at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in Alameda. In lieu of flowers, Joan requested that donations be made to either Friends of the Alameda Free Library or High Country Friends of the Library.
