Richard James Barrieau Jr. passed away February 09, 2018 at his home in Sonora.
Richard was born Feb. 12, 1945, in Oakland, California. He graduated from Castro Valley High in 1961, where he was a star football player. Richard followed in his father's footsteps and became a firefighter. He worked for City of Oakland Fire Department for 22 years, retiring as captain to become chief of Columbia College Fire Department, and also was a fire instructor at Columbia College for four years.
After leaving the fire service, he dedicated himself to his family. He enjoyed sports thoroughly, he and his wife, Barbara, traveled all over the United States so he could play many different sports, receiving medals and trophies as he went. Richard loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was mentor in many different ways to young students in the fire service. He was loved dearly by many in the community because he cared so deeply about it. He will be missed greatly by all who met him, especially his loving wife.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Barbara Ann Barrieau; his sons, Richard, Brian and Mike; and stepsons, Erik Witt and Dana Johnson; and sister, Sharon Pine.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 24 at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora, CA.
