Russell Thornton

Russell Thornton passed away on Feb. 1, 2018 in Sonora. He was born Aug. 5, 1933, in Prague, Oklahoma.

Russell was one of the first Toyota service managers in California in the early ’60s, for 15 years. In 1978 he went into agriculture serving 20 years as an equipment manager and later as a packing facility manager for a large farming corporation, retiring in 1998. He and Dorothy moved to Sonora Hills, where he served as community manager until his death. Russell was a Navy veteran serving from 1950-1954 on board a destroyer in the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy; his son, Mitchell (Sharron); two grandchildren, Charles Cipolla and Michelle Trautman; four siblings, Dorothy Neukirshner, of Loveland, Colorado, Leroy Thornton, of Turlock, California, Shirley Tucker, of Tulare, California and Stan Thornton, of Gig Harbor, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

Russell is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Effie Thornton; sister, Mildred Smith; brothers, Ralph and Raymond Thornton.

As per his request, no services or memorials will be held.
