Laurie A. Bailie, age 65, passed away Dec. 26, 2017 at her residence in Sonora as a result of heart failure. Laurie was born June 5, 1952, in New York to Matthew Aretsky and Ruth Marion Aretsky.
Laurie was a real people person, and always asked people about themselves and genuinely cared what they had to say. Laurie had a way of making everyone around her feel special and important.
Laurie had two, 22-year marriages. The first was to Bob Bailie, the father of her two daughters, Leah and Rachel.
The second marriage was to Snuffy Herring, going into their 23rd year at the time of her passing.
Laurie was very politically active in Sonora, and was a strong supporter of social justice, and participated in many demonstrations for the homeless, the needy and people less fortunate.
Laurie served as past president of the Board of Directors of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Tuolumne County. She volunteered for many years at the Lambert Drop-In Center, and served on the Board of the Motherlode Martin Luther King Jr. Committee.
A Celebration of Life for Laurie Bailie will be held on March 31, Saturday, at 1 p.m., at the Sonora Hills Community Center, on Greenley Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Motherlode Martin Luther King Jr. Committee, at PO Box 254, Tuolumne, CA 95379.
