Royce Lee Eslick passed away at his home in Twain Harte on Saturday, Jan. 6.
Royce was born in Caddo, Oklahoma, and moved to Shafter, California, with his parents and siblings when he was 8 years old. Royce is fondly remembered in Shafter for his beautiful voice leading worship at his church.
Royce graduated from Shafter High School and enlisted in the United States Army. While enlisted, Royce was commissioned by the National Security Agency to assist with central intelligence operations. Royce excelled at software engineering and held positions at several prestigious software corporations such as IBM and Intel.
In his spare time, Royce was an avid reader, competitive bowler, and skilled woodworker. Beautiful pieces of his craftsmanship can be lovingly found in each of his children’s and grandchildren’s homes.
Known as “Papa,” his family and friends were everything to him. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, all of whom he was extremely proud.
Royce is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret; his sons, Allen Eslick (Heather), Brian (Kim), Chris and Greg (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Allegra Jensen (Doug), Clayton Eslick, Zachary Eslick, Ashley Eslick, Connor Eslick, Emily Eslick and Morgan Eslick; his brother, Bill (Donna); sister; Janet Thomasy (Frank); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Flora Eslick.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Shafter Church of Christ in Shafter. A graveside service will follow at Shafter Cemetery. Reception to follow.
A viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at Peters Funeral Home.
