Charles Hegwein passed away at his home in Columbia on Dec. 4, 2017. Chuck was born May 6, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois.
When first moving to Tuolumne County, Chuck went into turkey ranching and eventually purchased his own beverage distributing business, which he ran for over 30 years.
Chuck enjoyed fishing, horse racing and was an avid sports fan. He loved watching all sports, but his favorites were watching Notre Dame football games and the 49ers. He held season tickets for 49er games for more than 30 years. He thoroughly enjoyed watching all of his kids and grandkids play sports in high school.
Chuck and his wife, Frances, traveled extensively and had been in 49 of 50 states. He was a school board member for Columbia Elementary School for 25 years. He also enjoyed telling stories to his family and anyone else about his life experiences
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Frances Hegwein.
Chuck is survived by his children, Bob Hegwein, Janet Colvin, Kay Hegwein-Harvey, Colleen Iveson and Pat Hegwein; five grandchildren, Christie Vasquez, Katie Olsen-Hegwein, Luke Snow, Erik Snow and Tanner Harvey; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose Ave., at Lyons St., in Sonora. Inurnment will be in St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery in Columbia.
