Eugene Gerald Sylvester passed away at his home in Sonora on Dec. 3, 2017, after a battle with cancer. Eugene was born Feb. 11, 1947, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
He served in the United States Army, fighting in Vietnam. He got his degree in ophthalmology, then worked as an optician, and he was a licensed contractor for over 15 years, as well as building homes for Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed camping and traveling. Eugene married Helen on April 1, 1967, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Helen; sister, Pam Leggero; children, Hilary Durling and family, of Tuolumne, and Joey Sylvester and family, of Temecula; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Ron Sylvester.
No services per his request. A celebration of life open house will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 11 at their home, 663 E. Oakside Drive in Sonora.
