John Whitman passed away Oct. 16, 2017, at his home in Sonora, at the age of 76. John was born Dec. 25, 1940, in Moscow, Idaho, to James Alsbury Whitman and Opal Lucile Harris.
John loved fishing and talking with people over his ham radio. He also loved playing the organ and spending time with his family and friends. He was manager of KVML/KROG (voice of the Motherlode), he also did work as real estate broker, Sheriff’s Office dispatch and probation officer for Tuolumne County, and as a public safety officer dispatch for Black Oak Casino. He was best known for being a loving father and husband.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his spouse of 55 years, Tiny Whitman, of Sonora; his children, Tricia Francis, of Sonora, and Sherry Krueger, of Tualatin, Oregon; five grandchildren, Kevin Landin, of Denver, Colorado, Bri Pellarin, of Mi Wuk, Emily Krueger, Ryan Krueger, both of Tualatin, Oregon, and Jonathan Krueger, of Whidbey Island, WA; two great grandchildren; and two siblings, James E. Whitman, of Aptos and Donna Jeanne Whitman, of Sonora.
A private family service will be held.
