John Paul Goldson, 75, of Twain Harte, died Aug. 25, 2017, in Sonora.
John was born in 1942 to Paul and Fannie Goldson. He was a resident of Twain Harte for the past 50 years.
John proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division, out of Camp Pendleton, California, as a tank vehicle repairman. He often repeated the phrase proudly, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” He lived every day with the discipline and patriotism that was instilled in him by the Corps.
John had worked for the County of Tuolumne in the Department of Public Works for 31 years as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, dancing to country music, was a San Francisco Giants and 49er fan, loved to tell stories about local history of the area’s backcountry and enjoyed listening to classic country and classical music.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Doris; son, Erik; daughter-in-law, Erika; grandchildren, Tanner Paul and Charlotte Grace Noel, all of Twain Harte; sister, Cheryl Topping, of Loon Lake, Oregon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim and Barbara Ortman, of Modesto, Roger and Nancy Berner, of Hughson, Jerry DeBoer, of Modesto; and also many nieces and nephews in California and Oregon. John loved spending time with his family. He loved them very much, perhaps more than they knew, and his family will miss him dearly.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Fannie Goldson; his in-laws, Clarence and Rosa DeBoer; brother-in-law, Dean Topping; sister-in-law, Debbie DeBoer, and very close friends, Phil Martin, Fred Granis and Wayne Greeley
Cremation has taken place and no services will be held at his request. In John’s honor, the next time you see a veteran or military soldier, please step up and thank them for their service. Remembrances may be sent to Wounded Warriors, Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or your favorite charity.
The Goldson family would like to thank Dr. Danny Anderson, Dr. Rajiv Maraj and Dr. Abdol Mojab and their staffs; the Manteca District Ambulance-Tuolumne Division; Cat Fire-Twain Harte and Adventist Health Sonora staff for their care and support of John.
