Mary Houser died peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 10, 2016. She was 88 years old. Mary celebrated her 65 th wedding anniversary with her husband, Bob, this past August shortly before his passing. Mary was born Maria Katarina Bealessio on Oct. 26, 1928, in Santa Susana (now Simi Valley), to her parents, John and Luigia Bealessio. Mary was a first generation American of Italian immigrant parents who grew up on her parent’s farm in, what was rural, Simi. Mary graduated from Simi High School in 1946 and attended UC Santa Barbara majoring in education and minoring in Spanish. Mary and Bob were married in August 1951, in Simi Valley. They lived in Ventura and Santa Paula in Southern California where their children, Jan and Larry were born. This was followed by time in Bishop and La Mesa, when Bob took a job in international banking. The family shipped overseas first to Thailand and then Singapore in 1965 where Bob worked for Bank of America and where both Jan and Larry graduated from high school. Mary and Bob had a love for travel and worked and lived all over the world, including the above countries as well as Indonesia, Kenya, and London. After Bob’s retirement from the bank they left the big city behind. They moved to Pine Mountain Lake (PML), where they built their dream home and lived happily together for over 29 years.

Mary was very generous with her time and talents in Groveland. She was a volunteer and key figure in the early days of the Historical Society and Library in Groveland and served as a docent at the museum for many years. Mary was also very active at their local Catholic church in Groveland and was also active on the golf course at PML and enjoyed playing bridge with Bob and her friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan Houser of Riverbank; and her son, Larry Houser of La Quinta; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

She was a kind and loving “Grama” and “Grand-Mary” who always had love to go around and enjoyed hosting her family and friends at their long time home in PML.

Services for Mary will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Groveland, at 11 a.m., Jan. 14, 2017.
