Gordon Craig “Red” Preston August 29, 1957 - December 23, 2016

Gordon Craig “Red” Preston passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 59.

Gordy, “Red” to his friends, was born on August 29, 1957 in Stockton. He graduated from Stagg High School in 1975, in Stockton. Gordy was an incredible young man, and at the age of 15 he worked full time at the Stockton Record Newspaper, to help out his family. He worked his way up the ranks to become Chief Operating Engineer of the Mailroom. In 1981, he met the love of his life, Patricia Lee Miiks, when he rented a home owned by her grandmother. They were married, July 3, 1982, and had three children together. After 25 years with the Stockton Record, Gordy retired, and they moved to the Foothills in 1991 to raise their children. He pursued a second career (went back to school) in the automotive repair field as a machinist working for Kelly Motors in Jamestown. In 2005, Gordy reinvented himself yet again (went back to school), as an Hvac Engineer specialist working for Sonora Regional Medical Center in Plant Services, specializing in boiler room Engineer Technician. This was his last place of employment.

Gordy was a believer in Christ, attending Sierra Bible Church for many years. His hobbies included fishing, camping with family and friends, and road trips with his family on his fully restored 1979 Kawasaki LTD 1000 street bike.

Everybody that knew Gordy loved him. He will be greatly missed.

Gordy is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Patricia; his sons, Jarred Lee Preston of Sonora, Lorin Craig Preston of Soulsbyville; his daughter, Joycelyn Krystal Preston of Soulsbyville; grandchildren, Anthony, Austin, Adam and Abigail Preston of Jamestown; Jaxson Preston of Soulsbyville; his mother, Phyllis Preston of Sonora; his brother, Roger (Lavonne) Preston of Marysville; his sister, Carolee Herechski of Copperopolis; and baby sis, Sharon Turner of Soulsbyville; his beloved niece, Krystal (James) Burroughs of Sonora; many nieces and nephews, and dear family and friends who meant the world to him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Preston; and brother, Paul Randall Preston.

Services will be held Thursday, January 5, 2017 , at 1:00 p.m. , at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. Immediately following there will be a reception at Willow Springs Clubhouse in Willow Springs.

“Rest in Heavenly Peace Gordy, we love you!”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sonora High Football Scholarship fund in his name.
