The Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office has upgraded a felony driving under the influence charge against a nationally known human resources consultant.
Beth De Lima was charged with felony DUI with injuries last March. It was announced in court Friday that the DA has added felony DUI with great bodily injury.
De Lima was charged in connection with a collision in which her 2012 Audi hit a 2015 Dodge driven by Bret Harte High School Assistant Principal Heath Lane on Murphys Grade Road. Lane was the baseball coach and athletic director before going into administration.
De Lima is president of HRM Consulting, based in Murphys.
California Highway Patrol reports state that De Lima crossed into Lane’s path near Fairview Park Court.
Lane suffered major injuries and De Lima minor injuries, and both were airlifted to Modesto for treatment, the CHP stated.
De Lima appeared in court on Friday with a brace on her arm. She walked haltingly to the front when her case was called.
Her attorney, Ken Foley, asked the court to delay her preliminary hearing, which was scheduled for Friday afternoon, because he is considering filing a motion to object to the charge enhancement.
Judge Donald C. Boyack agreed. A hearing on the objection was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Nov. 3 in Department 1 of the Calaveras County Superior Court.
