Former Calaveras County District 4 Supervisor Debbie Ponte has been named the executive director of Destination Angels Camp, Anne Forrest, who previously held the position, confirmed Friday.
Ponte will be the first paid executive director of the organization. Forrest had been serving in the position as a volunteer since its inception in 2008. Compensation amounts were not available Friday.
“That allows me to sort of step back and be supportive and be on the board to help with some of the projects but not be doing everything,” she said.
Ponte could not be reached for comment Friday.
Larry Cornish, a member of the executive committee for Destination Angels Camp, said they approached Ponte in early December about the position. She was interested but needed to think about it, he said.
She was selected from a pool of six candidates. The hire was approved yesterday by the organization. Her first day in the role will be Monday.
Ponte will be a one-stop shop, Cornish said. She will be the operations manager for the organization. Many of her responsibilities will include business recruitment, development and retention to the area.
