Open Garden Day
today in San Andreas

Calaveras County Master Gardeners will hold an Open Garden Day today at its Demonstration Garden in San Andreas.

The garden will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a plant sale will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. The garden is at the County Government Center, 891 Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas.

This month’s topic will be the how-tos of replacing a lawn with drought-tolerant alternatives and will include an update on California’s rebate process.

Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to answer gardening questions, including plant and pest problems.

When the garden is not open, home gardening assistance is offered through the Master Gardener help line at (209) 754-2880.

Weavers, spinners
meet Oct. 10

The Mother Lode Weavers and Spinners Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 10 at the clubhouse at Rambling Hills Estates, 23732 Parrotts Ferry Road, in Columbia.

Fiber artists meet
Oct. 14 in Sonora

The Studio 49 Fiber Arts Group will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Community Room at the Tuolumne County Library, 480 Greenley Road, in Sonora.

Anyone interested in spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting or other fiber arts is welcome to attend.

Barktoberfest
set Oct. 14 and 15

The Sierra-Tuolumne Kennel Club will hold its annual AKC licensed all-breed dog show, Barktoberfest, on Oct. 14 and 15 at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.

About 400 dogs will compete for the Best in Show trophy, and another 100 dogs and their handlers will compete for honors in Junior Showmanship, Obedience, Rally and Barn Hunt categories.

Show hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.

Admission is free, and parking costs $5. Spectators are asked to leave their own dogs at home.

Plant sale slated
for Oct. 21

The California Native Plant Society will hold its annual Native Plant Sale Oct. 21 in Jamestown.

The sale will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Rocca Park on Main Street and will feature several species of shrubs and perennials that require little water once established.
