Weaving, spinning equipment for sale

Used weaving and spinning equipment and overstocked yarn will be offered for sale at a meeting Sept. 12 of the Mother Lode Weavers and Spinners Guild.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at the clubhouse at Rambling Hills Estates, 23732 Parrotts Ferry Road, in Columbia.

Fiber artists
meet Sept. 9

The Studio 49 Fiber Arts Group will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Tuolumne County Library on Greenley Road in Sonora.

Anyone interested in spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting or other fiber arts is invited.

Open Garden Day set today in San Andreas

Master Gardeners of Calaveras County will host an Open Garden Day Aug. 26 at its demonstration garden at the County Government Center, 891 Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas.

The garden will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Master Gardener volunteers will discuss the role of composting, mulching and soil biology beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer home gardening questions. When the garden is closed, home gardeners can call (209) 754-2880 with questions.

Habitat Hoedown today in Murphys

Habitat for Humanity Calaveras will hold its 13th annual Hoedown for Habitat Aug. 26 at Murphys Park in downtown Murphys.

The event will include a dinner of barbecued chicken, pork ribs or pasta primavera, Caesar salad and coleslaw and a variety of desserts.

Entertainment will be provided by the Rusty Rockers, who will perform classic country and old-school rock and roll music, and a silent auction and raffle will be held.

A no-host bar will open at 4 p.m. and will feature local wines and beer, soda and water. Dinner will begin at 5 p.m.

Tickets cost $30 per adult in advance or $40 at the park. Tickets for children ages 6 to 12 cost $10 in advance or $15 at the park.

Proceeds will support the home building, repair and maintenance projects Habitat is involved in throughout Calaveras County. Habitat in June completed two new homes for families in Copperopolis.
