Open Garden Day
today in San Andreas

Master Gardeners of Calaveras County will hold an Open Garden Day today at its demonstration garden, 891 Mountain Ranch Road in San Andreas.

The garden will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and irrigation systems will be the day’s topic.

Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer home-gardening questions.

Fiber artists meet
Aug. 12 in Sonora

The Studio 49 Fiber Arts Group will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Tuolumne County Library, 480 Greenley Road in Sonora.

Anyone interested in spinning, weaving, crocheting or other fiber arts is welcome.

Polystyrene collection set in August

Master Gardeners of Tuolumne County with the help of Waste Management will collect No. 6 polystyrene in August.

Collection will be done from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 19 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20 next to the Waste Management recycling center on Microtronics Way, off Camage Avenue near Standard.

Food containers, which must be clean, should be packed into clear plastic bags before drop off. Packing-grade polystyrene (used for shipping and wrapping items such as electronics) can be put into colored plastic bags, but all tape, tags, labels, etc., should be removed.

Packing peanuts will not be accepted, but can be taken to the UPS Store in the Crossroads Shopping Center in Sonora.
