Kids’ activities planned in garden
The Calaveras County Master Gardeners’ Demonstration Garden will be open on two Saturdays this month.
A Kids’ Day today will offer adults and children an opportunity to learn gardening. Activities will include decorating a book bag, a free book, nature art, flower pots, kids cooking, worms, music, face painting and more.
The event, 10 a.m. to noon, is open to all families.
An Open Garden Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 27 and will include a plant sale.
Topics for the day will include water conservation.
The Demonstration Garden is at 891 Mountain Ranch Road, San Andreas.

Open house to benefit cancer center
An open house of Claudia Smith’s Antique and Vintage Doll Showcase will benefit Sonora Regional Medical Center’s new Cancer Center.
The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 4 at 18495 Railbed Road in Jamestown.
Dolls are primarily of French and German origin from the late 1880s to early 1900s.
Appetizers, coffee, tea and lemonade will be served. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
Proceeds will be donated in the name of Smith’s husband, Rodney W. Smith, who recently died of cancer.
The Mother Lode Doll Study Club is assisting with the event.
