The Arnold Lions Club recently sponsored the club’s annual Peace Poster contest, sponsored by Lions International and held around the world.
Judging and award presentation was held on Nov. 8 at Avery Middle School in Avery. The four contestants were all students at the school. The theme for this years contest was “The Future of Peace.”
The winning poster portrays a crystal ball with peaceful vignettes inside while images of Malala, Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. gaze over the ball, smiling at the future of peace. Assorted flags of various religions, states and gender/life style are represented on the poster and project a peaceful future.
The first place winner was Samantha McClelland, who was awarded a cash prize of $50. Second place, with a prize of $25, was Marina Vallejo. Also awarded $25 were Opal Kiliveros and Bethany Close, who tied for third place. McClellan later won first place in the Lions district competition and received $100. Her poster will be entered in further competition with an opportunity to receive larger cash awards.
