All Hallows Fantasy Faire returns with music, more

File photo / Union Democrat The All Hallows Fantasy Faire includes vendors, costumes, live music and more entertainment this weekend at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.

The ninth annual All Hallows Fantasy Faire returns to the Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora this weekend with a theme of “The Celtic New Year: Ancient Fire Origins.”

The event features costumed characters, live entertainment and the popular “Burning of the Harvestman” along with a fire show by Kevin Axtell on Saturday night.

The faire is a two-day all inclusive costume play event. Those attending are encouraged to wear their favorite costumes and immerse themselves into the themed encampment realms. The encampments will be filled with Celts, Vikings, ancient warriors, pirates, vampires, mythical creatures, gypsies, witches, and a fire-breathing dragon.

One of Southern California’s hottest Irish rock bands, the Brick Top Blaggers, will perform along with Thee Hobo Gobbelins and the Black Irish Band.

Other live entertainment includes jugglers, storytellers, magicians, hypnotists, psychics, belly dancers and fortune tellers. New this year will be comedic acrobat Mary Evanoff.

The Celtic Village and Marketplace will showcase more than 50 artisan vendors. Ales, beers and other drinks will be available at the Slaughtered Lamb Tavern.

The faire is rooted in the beliefs of the Celtic people, but is combined with the excitement of a modern Halloween, organizers said.

On Saturday, there will be a costume contest for adults and children of all ages with prizes.

On Sunday, the faire will offer free admission to children 12 and younger. Children can also trick-or-treat and there will be a costume contest.

Ticket prices at the gate on Saturday will be $18 adults, $15 seniors and teens, $7 children ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and younger. Ticket prices at the gate on Sunday will be $15 adults, $10 seniors and teens and free for children 12 and younger. For discounted pre-sale tickets, visit allhallowsfaire.com.
