The Rev. David B. McKinney will give a Dharma talk Sunday at Sol Y Breath Yoga and Wellness Center in East Sonora.
The talk will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and the topic will be “Can Refining the Mind Help Us to Master Our Habits?” The Tibetan practice of mind training, which some people prefer to call refining the mind, is one of the many Buddhist practices that can make it easier for us to deal with our habits, stated a press release.
McKinney is the senior priest at the Vichara Monastery in Greeley Hill. He has lived at the monastery since 1972, where he prepares meals, offers private Buddhist instruction and gives Dharma talks twice a month.

St. Matthew Lutheran Church Sunday school classes will resume at 9:15 a.m. Sunday for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Students will study the life of Jesus. High school-age students will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Church serves are 8 and 10:30 a.m. every Sunday.

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Angels Camp will give away a 2017 Chevy Corvette at a drawing to be held Sunday at the church, 820 S. Main St.
Tickets cost $100 each, and only 1,000 will be sold (a minimum of 700 must be sold). Taxes, fees and license costs are not included. The holder of the winning ticket can choose between the Corvette, $40,000 cash, or a $50,000 gift certificate to Sierra Motors in Jamestown (good only for vehicles of $50,000 or more).
Tickets purchased before July 30 will also go into a separate drawing for a five-day, four-night Mexican Cruise.
The day of the drawing will include a wine and cheese reception and festival from noon to 5 p.m. at the church. Live music will be provided by The Rusty Rockers, and children’s games, a cupcake walk and a corn hole tournament will be held. The drawing will be held at 4 p.m.
All proceeds are used to support the St. Patrick’s Parish, which includes the church in Angels Camp, as well as St. Patrick’s Church in Murphys, Our Lady of the Sierra in Arnold, and St. Ignatius in Copperopolis.
Composer, recording artist and Bible teacher Dick Williams will perform music and ministry Sept. 17 at Creekside Community Church in East Sonora.
Williams will perform at the 9 and 11 a.m. services.
Williams has served in public ministry for 24 years and has shared his ministry in seven countries including Yugoslavia and Hungary.

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church will continue the period of inquiry into the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) this month.
RCIA is for adults seeking to receive or complete the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) in the Catholic Church.
The period of inquiry is held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in Room 1 of the Parish Hall, 127 Jackson St., Sonora.
