A Fresno woman — driving a truck stolen from a Calaveras County man — died and her passenger was injured when the truck crashed about 7 p.m. yesterday on La Grange Road.

California Highway Patrol Officer Tom Wills said the woman, whose name has not been released pending notification of her family, was not wearing a seatbelt when the truck rolled twice near Avenida Lugo Way.

Wills said it was unclear how fast the woman was driving or what caused her to swerve off the east shoulder of La Grange Road.

Wills said the Ford F-150, registered to Ed Salmon of Rail Road Flat, was destroyed in the crash. It was reported stolen Dec. 25, Wills said.

Michael Darin Krugman, 31, also of Fresno, was thrown from the truck when it rolled. He suffered a broken leg and cuts to his hands and face. He was listed in stable condition this morning at Tuolumne General Hospital.

Wills said he did not know if Krugman and the woman who died were related. Officers had not had a chance to talk with the man this morning.

Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Bob Bogolea said fire crews at the accident scene found a .22 caliber handgun, which also belonged to the truck's owner.

Inside the woman's purse, Bogolea found hypodermic syringes and a small quantity of what appeared to be methamphetamine.
