LIVINGSTON — Bret Harte High School got rolling in the first quarter and cruised to a 54-44 girls' basketball victory over Livingston on Wednesday night.

The Bullfrogs (8-7) led 22-13 after one quarter, 32-22 at halftime and 53-32 at the end of three quarters. Livingston (6-7) never threatened, even though Bret Harte's reserves scored only one point in the fourth quarter.

"We played our best game of the season," Bullfrog coach Mike Lewis said. "We were moving the ball on offense and getting good shots. We were getting good shots even in the fourth quarter, but we just couldn't put them in the last few minutes."

Megan Shires led three Bret Harte scorers in double figures with 12 points. Kathleen Avrit and Tawnie Lee went for 10 points each.

Sonya Castanellas scored a game-high 16 points and another Sonya, Dhanota, put in 11 for the Wolves.

Bret Harte plays another Trans-Valley League team, Hilmar (7-4), Friday in Angels Camp and then gears up for its Mother Lode League opener Friday, Jan. 17, at Linden.
