Adolph John ‘Bob' Spinetto

Adolph John "Bob" Spinetto, 82, a native of Tuolumne, died Wednesday at a Sonora hospital.

Mr. Spinetto was a lifelong resident of Tuolumne and graduated from Summerville elementary school.

He worked as a railroad brakeman for Westside Lumber Company from his youth until the company closed. During his career, he filmed movies about the railroad with his 8 mm camera, many of them in color. The movies have been donated to the Tuolumne Museum.

After the lumber company closed, he started a 24-year career as a carpenter and belonged to a carpenter's union. He also kept a small apple orchard for 20 years. Mr. Spinetto's father, Serafino, came over from Italy about a century ago, bought an entire block in Tuolumne and built homes for each of his children there. Bob Spinetto lived in the house his father built for him for 60 years, right next door to the house in which he grew up, his family said.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge and enjoyed mining, gardening, wine making, hunting and fishing.

Mr. Spinetto is survived by a son, David Spinetto of Tuolumne; a daughter and a son-in-law, Annette and Tom Nielsen of Modesto; six grandchildren, Melinda and Megan Nielsen, both of Modesto, Eric Nielsen of Sacramento, Diana Terrazas of Twain Harte, Niki Andrews of Salt Lake City and Zac Spinetto of Tuolumne; a sister, Esther Handy of Tuolumne; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Spinetto, in 2001; a brother, Bino Spinetto; and two sisters, Mary Ames and Nunnie Couture.

No service will be held at his request. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
