Sharon Brewster

Sept. 7, 1938 — Dec. 3, 2002

Patricia Sharon Brewster, 64, of Copperopolis died Tuesday at her home.

Mrs. Brewster was born in Sacramento and had lived in Copperopolis for the past five years. She lived in the Bay Area for many years before moving to the Mother Lode.

She was retired from a career as a driving examiner for the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

Mrs. Brewster is survived by her husband, Albert Rodney Brewster of Copperopolis; a son, Michael Rodney Brewster of Copperopolis; a daughter, Tamara Shareene Froh of San Jose; four grandchildren, Courtney and Chelsey Froh of San Jose and Cole and Caleigh Brewster of Copperopolis; and a sister, Estelle Orene Wainscott of Sacramento.

A private service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Copperopolis Cemetery. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Margaret Phelps

Ruth Margaret Phelps, 95, a former Sonora resident, died Saturday in a Roseburg, Ore., hospital.

Mrs. Phelps was born on her family's homestead in Stanley, N.D., to Fred Clarence and Julia Edith Phelps. She lived in Sonora from 1970 to 1991, before moving to Roseburg.

She was raised in Montana and developed a love for the piano at an early age. She studied drama, speech and English in college and graduated from Montana State Normal College with a bachelor's degree in education and later earned two master's degrees, one in drama from the University of Southern California.

Miss Phelps was a public school teacher and taught drama, music and English in grade school, high school and college.

She joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1954. She was a pianist and organist for church sabbath school, prayer meetings, wedding and funerals for many years.

Of her life, she wrote "my greatest achievement was memorizing the book of John and giving it publicly in costume about 58 times. My life has been happy and satisfying."

Miss Phelps is survived by two cousins, Judge James Barton Phelps of Menlo Park and Dr. Steve Phelps of Mishawaka, Ind.

She was preceded by two sisters, Julia Edith Martin and Mary "Micki" Elizabeth Bennett.

A memorial will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Sonora Seventh-day Adventist Church, 40 N. Forest Road, Sonora. Private burial will be at Mountain Shadow Cemetery, Sonora. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home handled arrangements.
