A Murphys man who disappeared from a Bakersfield hotel while on vacation with his five children was found safe Tuesday afternoon in Murphys.

Jeffrey Warren Olsen, 43, and his 1990 Plymouth Voyager van were found in Murphys at a friend's house around 12:30 p.m., according to a Bakersfield police report.

No details on how Olsen was found were released.

Olsen — the Forest Meadows Golf Course superintendent — disappeared around 5 p.m. Saturday shortly after checking into the Parkview Hotel with his five children who range in age from 3 to 13. On Monday, police Detective Mary DeGeare said that Olsen told his children he was going for a walk and left them in the hotel room.

When he didn't return after a few hours, and his 13-year-old daughter noticed the van was missing, she called her mother, Debbie, in Murphys. Debbie Olsen then phoned her sister in Fresno who drove to Bakersfield to retrieve the children and talk to police, DeGeare said.

The press release issued this morning said Bakersfield police have reclassified Olsen's disappearance as voluntary and closed that investigation.

No further information was available today.
