SAN ANDREAS Marja-Liisa Magnuson of Arnold, Jordan Chee of Angels Camp and Margarethe Styskel were the top performers from the Highway 4 corridor in a Future Stars tennis tournament at the Gold Hunter Club. Magnuson, a 2001 graduate of Bret Harte High School, won the mixed doubled championship with partner Steve Milone of Modesto. Together, they won 6-4, 6-1 in the finals over Lex Boccia of Stockton and Erin Gong-Ness of Sacramento. In women's open singles, Magnuson was second to Gong-Ness in a close final match, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Chee, a current Bret Harte player, took the men's B singles consolation title with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Priit Valtu of Lodi. In the women's open consolation singles final, Styskel defeated Alexis Laurence of Modesto 6-2, 6-1. Also: Joel Metzger of San Andreas won the men's B singles title, 6-2, 6-3 over Boccia. Rich Menders of San Andreas teams up with Dino Brasetti of Stockton for a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Brian Cormier and Rod Wid of Stockton in the men's open doubles final. John Tirapelle of Mokelumne Hill and Mark Hensley of Ione won the men's open doubles consolation finals in a wild one, 4-6, 7-6 (8), 6-4 over Eric Ford and Brian Shookman of Modesto. |
