Howard Eugene Otis

Former longtime Sonora resident Howard Eugene Otis died Thursday at his home in Murphys. He was 81.

He was born in Everett, Wash., and had lived in Murphys for the past two months. He previously had lived in Sonora for 22 years.

He worked as a space and defense engineer for Lockheed for 35 years and as a kitchen worker for Meals on Wheels for 12 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion in Sonora, MENSA Society and was active at the Sonora Senior Center.

Mr. Otis is survived by his sons, Greg Otis of Angels Camp and Kerry Otis of Bozeman, Mont.; a daughter, Candy Schwake of Vallecito; a sister, Margaret Frost of Upland; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

LEONARD — David Anthony Leonard, 54, of Columbia died Friday at a Sonora hospital. Visitation is scheduled for 1-6 p.m. today at Angels Memorial Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at the chapel. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

MARK — Carl Mark, 81, of Sonora died Friday at a Sonora hospital. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

MCMAHON — Anna Mae (Bromley) McMahon, 101, of Sonora died Friday at a Sonora care home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

SAGEHORN —Evelyn Sagehorn, 91, of Sonora died yesterday at a Sonora care home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

VERBECK — Visitation for Ethel Verbeck, 89, of Jamestown, who died Friday at a Sonora hospital, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow at Heuton Memorial Chapel. A rosary will be at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the chapel. A memorial Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
