Phyllis Martin

Jan. 9, 1919 — Aug. 3, 2003

Phyllis Martin of Columbia died Aug. 3 at her home. She was 84.

She was born in Bristol, England.

Her family said she enjoyed crocheting hats, which she donated to children in the Ukraine. She also loved animals and enjoyed the company of other people, her family added.

She is survived by her husband, George Martin of Columbia; a son, Malcolm Bull of Jamestown; a grandson, Graham Bull of Santa Rosa; a sister, Lilian Bryce of Bristol, England; a niece, Stella Hutchinson of Bristol; and many other relatives in England.

Services were held Saturday.

Carol Jo Barrett

Jan. 28, 1934 — Sept. 3, 2003

Longtime Mokelumne Hill resident Carol Jo Barrett died Wednesday at a Jackson care home. She was 69.

She was born in Peoria, Ill., and lived in Mokelumne Hill for 25 years. She was a high school graduate. She was a member of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Barrett of Mokelumne Hill; her brother, Charles Hewitt of San Andreas; and her sister, Sally Hewitt of Placerville.

No services will be held per her request.
