Joseph ‘Joe' Loren Rogers

Jan. 29, 1981 — June 13, 2003

Joseph "Joe" Loren Rogers of Groveland and Pullman, Wash., died Friday from injuries suffered in a car crash on Highway 120. He was 22.

Mr. Rogers was born in Modesto and lived in Pullman, Wash., for 13 years. He lived in both places.

He worked as an electrical apprentice for two years. He was a member of the fire crew of Cherry Lake Engine 44. He enjoyed relaxing and demolition derbies, his family said.

He is survived by his parents, Linda and Gerald Rogers of Pullman, Wash.; a son, Joseph Rogers of Wenatchee, Wash.; a daughter, Torii Rogers of Wenatchee; two brothers, Christopher Rogers of Steptoe, Wash., and James Westow Cruz of Missouri; a sister, Annette Miller of Colfax, Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be at noon tomorrow at Red Cloud Park in Greeley Hill.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Karen E. Freese

June 2, 1942 — June 14, 2003

Longtime Columbia resident Karen E. Freese died Saturday at a Sonora hospital. She was 61.

She was born in Pontiac, Mich., and lived in Columbia for 31 years. She worked as a clerk at R & L Mini Mart in Sonora for 20 years. She was a member of Columbia Presbyterian Church of the 49ers. She loved her family and loved working with people, her family said.

She is survived by two sons, Arthur Burr of Sonora and Don Freese of Tuolumne; a daughter, Jan Jenkins of Columbia; a brother, William Elledge of Columbia; two sisters, Marian Dias of Benicia and Donna Miller of Crescent City; a sister-in-law, Diane Angell of Rodeo; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Heuton Memorial Chapel.

Mary Ailene Sams

Oct. 23, 1917 — June 6, 2003

Longtime San Andreas resident Mary Ailene Sams died June 6 at a San Andreas hospital. She was 85.

She was born in San Francisco and lived in San Andreas for the past 26 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Jumping Frogs.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene Sams of San Andreas; a son, Lawrence Sams of Bell; two daughters, Barbara Piraino of Lakewood and Linda Webb of Upland; two brothers, Mike Creedon of Hollister and Neil Creedon of Turlock; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A burial is scheduled at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery.

San Andreas Memorial Chapel handled arrangements.
