Better watch out, Mother Lode League — the Summerville High School girls' soccer team appears to have fixed whatever had been wrong.

After wrapping up the first round of MLL play in second place thanks to last week's back-to-back ties against Bret Harte and Amador, the Bears (13-0-2, 4-0-2) have opened Round 2 with a vengeance.

Summerville easily trounced Argonaut 7-0 last night at Thorsted Field in Tuolumne, wrapping up an impressive week that began with a 4-0 win over Calaveras on Tuesday. Although they are still in second place, the Bears have outscored their MLL opponents by a combined 21-2 margin through the first six games.

The Bears' high-octane performance against Argonaut (0-5 MLL) was hardly surprising, given their 6-0 victory over the Mustangs in Jackson on March 18.

In that game, Jordan Vermillion led four Summerville scorers with three goals. Yesterday, it was Megan Reynolds' turn. Reynolds recorded her second straight hat trick and added three assists, bringing her season totals to 19 goals (one behind Vermillion's 20) and a team-leading 10 assists.

Vermillion added two goals of her own yesterday, while Shannon Hayes and Kadi Davies chipped in with one apiece. Ashley Rice and Amber Burkan recorded one assist each for Summerville.

The Bears jumped out quickly, taking a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game on Hayes' goal. They upped their lead to 3-0 by the 20-minute mark and 5-0 by halftime.

Reynolds scored both of Summerville's second-half goals in the final 16 minutes.

Next week, Summerville will host Linden on Tuesday before visiting first-place Bret Harte on Thursday. The Bears and Bullfrogs tied 1-1 March 25 at Thorsted.

Frosh-Soph — The Bearcubs (6-4-4, 2-2-2) got two goals from Megan Houseberg and one goal from Judea Ezell in a 3-1 victory over Argonaut. Kayla Andrade and Gina Bachtelle recorded assists.
