SAN ANDREAS — Megan Reynolds recorded a hat track and the Summerville High School girls' soccer team broke a two-game winless streak by topping Calaveras 4-0 last night.

"Megan's intensity of play and skillful finishing was a real spark for the team," Summerville coach Jim Frazier said. "The win got us back on track …"

The Bears (12-0-2, 3-0-2 Mother Lode League), who had tied Bret Harte and Amador in their previous two outings, took a quick 1-0 lead when Shannon Hayes sent a lead pass to Reynolds, who beat the Redskins' goalie with a shot in the lower left corner just seven minutes into the game.

Hayes and Reynolds hooked up again on another goal toward the end of the first half to give Summerville a 2-0 lead at the break.

Reynolds was not credited with Summerville's third score, but it was her shot that ricocheted off a Skins' defender and into the Calaveras goal for a 3-0 Bears' lead at the 62-minute mark.

Reynolds finished up the scoring with two minutes remaining in the game when she took a chip pass from Jordan Vermillion that sailed over the Calaveras defense, beat the Skins' goalie to the ball and tapped it in for the capper.

Kelly Marquardt, normally Summerville's starting left fullback, filled in for the absent Kellie Pierce at keeper and recorded her first shutout with a big assist going to Bears' defenders Lauren Gianelli, Nichole Caldera, Fiona Sullivan, and Amber Burkan.

The Bears begin the second leg of their three-round MLL schedule tomorrow night at 7 against Argonaut at Thorsted Field in Tuolumne. They're in second place, two points behind Bret Harte (8-4-2, 4-0-1) as they seek a third straight championship.

Frosh-Soph — A late defensive breakdown cost the Bearcubs (5-4-4, 1-2-2) a 2-0 loss to Calaveras.
