The Sonora High School boys' tennis team posted its first victory of the season, 15-0 over Buhach Colony of Atwater in the Valley Oak League opener yesterday at the Sonora courts.

Phil Emery, Jason Diestel, and Tom McDonnell (just out from basketball) won their singles sets for the Wildcats (1-3 overall) by a total score of 54-12 against Son Nguyen, Tony Calip, and Jose Lopez.

In doubles, Jared Orrock-Cory Seibert and Jonathan Newkirk-Garrett Diestel took the measure of Chris Rogers-Ryan Brenes and Shawn Landers-Aaron Klingborg to the tune of 40-13.

"Tom is back in the lineup, so we have three strong singles players," Sonora coach Carey Marmesh said. "And Orrock and Seibert played together last year, so there's a little more experience out there."

The Wildcats are figuring on a much more competitive match tomorrow, when Los Banos comes to town at 3:30 p.m.
