Nile Elgin Frankenstein

Nov. 5, 1921 — March 5, 2014

Longtime Sonora resident Nile Elgin Frankenstein died March 5 at his home surrounded by family. He was 92. 

He was born on Nov. 5, 1921, to Bertha (Cove) and Edward Frankenstein in the Territory of Hawaii. He was the fifth of their six children and the first one in his family to graduate from high school. He graduated from Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill. 

He was married for 64 years to Betty Jane Frankenstein. They had two children, LaVerne “Frankie” Zehrung and Tim Frankenstein. 

Mr. Frankenstein served four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He also worked for 47 years in the body and fender repair industry. 

He enjoyed fishing, square dancing, traveling around in his RV, Black Oak Casino and family gatherings.

Mr. Frankenstein was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and four of his siblings. 

He is survived by his younger sister, June Moon, of Yuma, Ariz.; his children, LaVerne Zehrung, of Shelton, Wash., and Tim Frankenstein, of Twain Harte; four grandchildren, Tim Frankenstein Jr,  of Twain Harte, Rachelle Ford, of Modesto, Rod Zehrung, of Decatur, Ill., and Rebecca Jayasundara, of Bonney Lake, Wash.; and four great-grandchildren.

FERREIRA — Paul Ferreira, 86, of Sonora, died Saturday at his home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

GRAHAM — Sandra “Sandi” Elizabeth Graham, 71, of Groveland, died Feb. 22 at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. 

HUMRICH — Dee Gale Humrich, 79, of Sonora, died Saturday at her home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

MOORE — Bert Moore, 84, of Twain Harte, died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

SILVA — Lisa Silva, 47, of Mi-Wuk Village, died Saturday at her home. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
