Betty Lord 

Feb. 11, 1930 — Feb. 15, 2014

Mountain Ranch resident Betty Lord died Feb. 15 at her home. She was 84.

Mrs. Lord was born in Lancashire, England, the youngest of three daughters born to Edith and James Ensall.

She married John Lord in England on Jan. 7, 1954. They were married for almost 60 years.

Mrs. Lord was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John Lord. 

She is survived by her children, Helen Clinton, of Pittsburg, and Liz Muniz, of Mountain Ranch; grandchildren, Amber Strauch, of Copperopolis, Preston Spahn, of Denver, and Lance Look, of Fayetteville, Ark.; and three great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held. 

San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Peter Frank Val

Oct. 5, 1926 — Feb. 13, 2014

Angels Camp resident Peter Frank Val died unexpectedly Feb. 13 in Lodi. He was 87.

Mr. Val was born in Angels Camp, the son of John and Maria Val.

He attended schools in Angels Camp, and graduated from Bret Harte High School in 1945. 

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Japan. He was honorably discharged in October 1946 from Camp Beale, and returned to Angels Camp. 

Mr. Val worked at Safeway in Angels Camp. He was also a part owner of the Altaville Market, along with a group of business associates. He worked at the Altaville Market for 45 years until retiring in 1992.

Mr. Val enjoyed traveling to Lake Tahoe and Reno, Nev. He was also a long-time member of the Angels Gun Club.

Mr. Val was preceded in death by his parents; and half-sister, Louisa Ahearn.

He is survived by his sisters, Josephine Anderson, of Galt, and Nilda Quinones, of Angels Camp; his nieces and nephews, Roberta Babbes, of Newcastle, Maria Anderson, of San Ramon, Kathy Quinones, of Angels Camp, John Anderson, of Omaha, Neb., and Russell Anderson, of Galt.

Services have been held.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements.

SHUSTER — Marjorie Shuster, 85, of Twain Harte, died Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
