Daniel Gordon

Nov. 29, 1940 — Jan. 22, 2014

Soulsbyville resident Daniel Gordon died Jan. 22 at his home. He was 73.

Mr. Gordon was born in Los Angeles, the son of Bertha and Robert Gordon.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960 to 1963.

Mr. Gordon married Evelyn Basye in Oakland in 1965. 

He settled in Soulsbyville 38 years ago from San Francisco to pursue a career in crafts.

He worked in pottery manufacturing. He and his wife owned Gordon Pottery in Soulsbyville for 35 years. They sold pieces at the Sonora Farmer’s Market for 10 years, from 2000 to 2010.

He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and caring for his cats.

Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Evelyn Gordon, of Soulsbyville; his daughter, Anna Gordon Pope, of Livermore; and granddaughter, Sarah Pope, of Livermore.

Melvin Milton ‘Mel’ Jenner Jr.

Oct. 15, 1958 — Jan. 4, 2014

Tuolumne resident Melvin Milton “Mel” Jenner Jr. died Jan. 4 at his home. He was 55.

Mr. Jenner was born in Missouri, the son of Charlotte and Melvin Milton Jenner Sr. 

He settled in Tuolumne County 20 years ago and worked in construction for the past 15 years. 

He enjoyed spending time in nature as well as with his family and friends. 

Mr. Jenner was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Sherri Jenner, in 2005 and David Jenner, in 2012.

He is survived by his children, Melvin Jenner III, of Turlock, and Jewels Jenner, of Tuolumne; his grandchildren, Melvin Jenner IV, Marie Janae Jenner, Mia Barbara Jenner and Dick Armbright; and siblings, Michael and Sheilah Jenner, of Turlock, Trudy Jenner, of Santa Rosa, Terry Jenner, of Ohio, Rick Jenner, of Kentucky, Jeannie Jenner, of Florida, and Judy Jenner, of Florida.

Services have been held.

Bonnie Jo (Reeves) Mattoch

Jan. 10, 1947 — Jan. 18, 2014

Tuolumne County resident Bonnie Jo (Reeves) Mattoch died Jan. 18 at her home. She was 67.

Mrs. Mattoch was born in Cheyenne, Wyo., the daughter of Joe and Ruthe Reeves. 

She grew up in the Bay Area, living many years in Santa Cruz County, where she worked in bookkeeping and finance. 

She moved to the Sonora area, where she enjoyed the rural life of a cowgirl, her family said. She owned three horses — Babe, Conce and Cowboy. 

She rescued several cats and dogs. 

Mrs. Mattoch is survived by her husband, Michael Mattoch, of Jamestown; her younger brother, Al Reeves, and his wife, Cindy, of Aptos; two daughters, Cheryl Walton and Amie Muccilli and her husband, Marc, of Santa Cruz; grandsons, Taylor Walton and Vince and Joe Muccilli, all of Santa Cruz; niece and caregiver, Jessica Kearney-Reeves, and her mother, Annie Kearney; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her stepchildren and their spouses, Scott and Tracey Mattoch, Lisa Mattoch, Todd and Kerry Mattoch, Kris and John Monnes; and many stepgrandchildren.
