Letter brings childhood memories

To the Editor:

A recent letter in this column (Disturbed by ‘Duck Dynasty’, Dec. 24) took me back to my happy childhood. That writer accused Ronald Reagan of being the first in a long line of presidents assaulting the middle class, then finished by name-calling a backwoods family of financially successful duck hunters.

I was amused because I immediately remembered the old “Life of Riley” radio and television episodes of the 1940s and ‘50s where lovable but bumbling Chester A. Riley would get agitated when confronted with his own inaccuracies and would spout “Don’t confuse me with facts, my head is made up”! Then there was my old high school buddy Stanley. When he would witness someone loudly and emotionally citing inaccuracies, he would quietly respond “When in trouble or in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout.”

Again I want to thank that writer for giving me a chuckle and restoring me to my youth for a few moments.

Stage 3’s Bilotti
will be missed

The mission statement for Stage 3 describes it as “a regional black box theatre company committed to producing plays that stir both heart and mind.”

With Don Bilotti as artistic director, it has certainly fulfilled that mission. Serving on limited salary, Don worked tirelessly to achieve no less than consistently high quality.

As a former chair of its board of directors, I believe that his departure will be a great loss — not only to Stage 3, but to the community at large.
