Claire Ruth Julie Williams, the first child of Sonora residents Lydia and Trevor Williams, was the first baby born in 2014 at Sonora Regional Medical Center.

Claire, born at 1:52 a.m. Thursday, weighed in at 7 pounds, 5 ounces and measured 20 inches long.

The new parents beamed with joy as Lydia’s mother held her newborn granddaughter in the couple’s hospital room.

Lydia, 29, and Trevor, 30, have been married since 2008 and have been living for the past year at Old Oak Ranch, a Christian camp, with Lydia’s parents, Jeffrey and Palma Fitch.

Claire’s due date was between Dec. 29 and Jan. 5., Trevor said. It takes about 40 minutes to drive from the ranch to the hospital, and it was about 10 p.m. when the Williams made the trip Wednesday night.

An emergency cesarean section had to be performed by the time they got to the hospital.

“It wasn’t bad at all,” Trevor said. “I just had peace about it — definitely a Godly peace.”

As Palma Fitch held Claire on Thursday afternoon, the family marveled at how the quiet baby seemed to share her parents’ calm demeanor.

Claire’s middle names, Ruth and Julie, are after her paternal great-grandmother and grandmother, respectively.

The couple have been planning a move closer to Fremont after Claire’s birth and already have packed away nearly everything at their Old Oak Ranch residence with the exception of two beds. Trevor’s parents still live in the Bay Area, which is where the entire family on both sides is originally from.

Trevor plans on returning to school and hopes to get into University of California, Davis, with the ultimate goal of becoming a college-level professor.

The couple had been quietly and patiently hoping for Lydia to get pregnant for a number of years.

Don Quattlebum, a friend of the couple, said a prayer for them at their home last year when they told him that they wanted a child.

Two weeks later, they found out Lydia was pregnant.

“She’s our miracle,” Lydia said, while smiling down at Claire in her arms.
