Military wife
gives thanks

To the Editor:

I write this letter to be published on the first anniversary of my husband’s death (Dec. 26).

It is a letter of thanks to the person or persons who, seeing Daniel’s World War II vet cap, paid for our lunch at Talulah’s some months ago. you could not have known that he also served six years in the mounted cavalry, 18 months during the Korean conflict, and was on Okinawa at the beginning of our involvement in Vietnam.

You slipped away before we could thank you personally, but Dan felt very honored.

Adding all the years Daniel was in the actual theater of war, they don’t equal the length of time our country has been involved in the Middle East.

In the future, will our children and grandchildren be honoring those men and women who have served so long against enemies that seem far more treacherous and elusive?

I pray that we and our descendants will never forget their service.
