Is the pen mightier than the sword?

To the Editor:

The statement “The pen is mightier than the sword” is only true if, there’s another sword around to insure your ability to use that pen.

This has been proven throughout history and is unfortunately true. Peace can only be achieved through strength. Whether it’s defending your lunch money from the bully intent on taking it on the schoolyard  to terrorist’s, Totalitarianists and religious extremists trying to usurp your freedoms.

There’s no dissuading the enraged pit bull from attacking you by entering into dialog. That’s what these types of people are like. There is really no talking to them until they know that you will not allow them to back you down from your principles of dignity, freedom and personal choice.

Some people might say that it’s the United States that’s at fault. Let me remind you that it’s due to the people of the United States that the world is not speaking German, Italian, Japanese or Russian right now.

Tea Party intentions not very patriotic

To the Editor:

They call themselves Tea Party patriots. Do patriots shut down the government, wreaking havoc on the economy and business?

Do patriots take food from the mouths of babes, throw millions of Americans and elderly off food assistance?

Do patriots try to undo the Affordable Care Act that provides health care for tens of millions of Americans, including them?

Do patriots hate the president of their own country?

And what’s so patriotic about being an all “white” group in a diverse, multi-ethnic nation?

Tea Party supporters are incapable of functioning in the type of democratic republic they pretend to love. The things they are doing certainly aren’t for the people, of the people, and by the people.

The Republican Party will loathe the day they let the Tea Party huddle under its banner.
