Four Sonora senior gridders were recognized Monday by Valley Oak League coaches for their standout performances this season.

Wildcats K.C. Brandsted, Steve Lawrence, Tait Mele and Will Collamer each earned All-VOL First Team honors.

Brandsted was the lone First Team offensive player for Sonora. The fullback was easily the Wildcats leading rusher with over 1,000 yards.

Lawrence, a middle linebacker, and 3-year varsity starter, was Sonora’s leading tackler.

Both Collamer and Mele got better each game at defensive back and outside linebacker, respectively, and their effort didn’t go unnoticed by the VOL coaches.

One senior and four juniors were named to the All-VOL Second Team.

Senior Andrew Nessi, who started the season as the Cats quarterback, finished as one of the hardest hitting defensive backs in the league.

Defensive backfield teammate, junior Bryce Sanguinetti, was also named to the Second Team along with inside linebacker Billy Kiriluk, defensive lineman Lane Mierop and offensive lineman Michael Howell.

Earning honorable mention for Sonora (4-6, 4-3 VOL)were: seniors Bret Cahoon (DL), Colton Fredrickson (DL), Jake Gustafson (DE) and juniors Brandon Phelan (OL), Zach Atwood (QB), Matt Konklin (OL) and Zerek Saldivar (OL).

Alex Laurel won Most Valuable Player for the Division III Sac-Joaquin Section champs, the Manteca Buffaloes.

In other awards: Jake Pruitt, of Sierra, was the Outstanding Offensive Player; Jacob LaDon, of Manteca, was the Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year; Tanner Morgan, of Oakdale, was the Utility Player of the Year and Manteca’s Eric Reis was named top coach.
