Donald L. Boggs

Nov. 28, 1929 — Nov. 14, 2013

Sonora resident Donald L. Boggs died Thursday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 83. 

Mr. Boggs was born in Vancouver, Wash., the son of Wilbur and Edna (Anderson) Boggs.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1953. After his service, he worked as a radar technician in Germany for three years.

Mr. Boggs later settled in the Bay Area, where he worked for GTE Sylvania in Mountain View for 25 years. He started as an engineer but later worked in the marketing division negotiating government contracts.

He and his wife owned a houseboat at Lake Don Pedro for a number years and retired to Sonora in 1987.

Mr. Boggs worked in commercial real estate for Gold Country Real Estate for several years.

He enjoyed boating, hiking, fishing and water skiing.

Mr. Boggs was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Boggs, of Sonora; his children, Ron Boggs, of Carson City, Nev., Diane Smith, of Fresno, and Denise Clark, of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Alice McDonald, of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A private family service has been held.

Robert Brent Calvin

June 9, 1959 — Nov. 11, 2013

San Andreas resident Robert Brent Calvin died Nov. 11 at his home. He was 54.

Mr. Calvin was born in Ceres to Rob and Rita Calvin. He was raised in Mokelumne Hill and graduated from Mokelumne Hill Elementary and Calaveras High schools. 

He attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and graduated in 1981. He worked as an agricultural loan officer for Production Credit Association in Paso Robles, Visalia and Bakersfield. He then pursued a career in real estate as an agent in Bakersfield and Jackson. Adding to his broker’s license, he became a real estate appraiser working in Amador and Calaveras counties.

He enjoyed reading, writing poetry and painting landscapes. He was a sports fan, and favored the Oakland Athletics and Oakland Raiders.

Mr. Calvin was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Daisy Calvin, of West Point, and Dewey and Bertha Fischer, of Mokelumne Hill.

He is survived by his parents, Rob and Rita Calvin, of Mokelumne Hill; his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Susan Calvin, of Valley Home; his niece, Casey Calvin, of Valley Home; his sister, Marcia Calvin, of Sacramento; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. 

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Mokelumne Hill Town Hall. 

In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be made to a charity of choice.
