Reasonable arguments

To the Editor:

In his letter of Oct. 28, Michael Ackley acknowledges that some letters by Democrats “set forth reasonable arguments for party positions.” He goes on to conclude his sentence with “some of them are strictly from fantasy land,” thereby undermining his own argument by claiming that they refused to negotiate the Affordable Care Act. Indeed they did — and with their reasoning at its best.

Apparently Ackley is either unaware or unwilling to face the fact that this legislation was passed by Congress only after extensive negotiation, signed into law by the president, and confirmed as constitutional by the most conservative Supreme Court in the history of this country.

Perhaps he will recognize my position on this issue as at the very least “reasonable” and not even close to those from “fantasy land,” which seems to be the primary one for the Republican party.

Good Samaritans come to the rescue

To the Editor:

Recently we went shopping at the upper Save Mart shopping center. While I was inside buying groceries, my husband was parking the car (a 1999 Nissan Sentra). All of a sudden the wheel locked and they key wasn’t working!

Thanks to Brian, a clerk at Save Mart, and an unknown hero they helped my husband jack the car and fix what was wrong. The young men would not take money but wished us well.

I wish to publically thank Brian and the other hero for helping an 87 year old man in distress.

There are still good ones out there!
