Sandra Marie (Siedletz) Fay

Nov. 3, 1946 — Sept. 11, 2013

Sonora resident Sandra Marie (Siedletz) Fay died Sept. 11 at her home after a long fight with lung cancer. She was 66.

Mrs. Fay was born in Torrance.

She worked as a medical transcriptionist for 38 years.

She moved from Southern California to Sonora in 2000.

She is survived by her husband, Tim Fay, of Sonora; son, Clint Long, of Sonora; and four grandchildren.

No services are planned.

Winfield ‘Win’ Dixon Howland

Sept. 10, 1950 — Aug. 30, 2013

Columbia resident Winfield “Win” Dixon Howland died Aug. 30 at his home. He was 62. 

Mr. Howland was born in Sedro Woolley, Wash., to Walter and Renee Howland.

He settled in Tuolumne County 29 years ago and worked as an assistant superintendent at Mountain Springs Golf Course and superintendent at Twain Harte Golf Course.

Mr. Howland enjoyed researching his Pomo American Indian heritage.

He also enjoyed rooting for his favorite sports teams, the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners and Oakland Raiders. He enjoyed music and often attended live music shows and played guitar for his family and friends. He assisted with the Tommy Castro Band’s live performances with his friend, Alan Curnow.

Mr. Howland was preceded in death by his father, Walter “Wimpy” Howland, in 1981.

He is survived by his mother, Renee Tucker, of Columbia; his children and their spouses, Alison and Rod McNally, of Sonora, Dylan and Jeanine Howland, of Elk Grove, and Wesley Howland, of Sonora; grandson, Cameron Dixon Howland, of Elk Grove; siblings, John Cudia and his wife, Lolly, of Sonora, Mariannette McMillan, of Columbia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Donations in his memory can be made to the ReHorse Rescue Ranch, P.O. Box 494, Jamestown, CA 95327.

A private family has been held.

Doris Lorraine (Bettis) Pyzer

Sept. 12, 1925 — Sept. 2, 2013

Sonora resident Doris Lorraine (Bettis) Pyzer died Sept. 2 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 87.

Mrs. Pyzer was born in Monterey Park, Calif., to Lloyd and Virginia Bettis.

She married Lloyd E. Pyzer, M.D., on Nov. 30, 1956.

She left high school at age 16 to help with World War II efforts and became a homemaker, raising three children and helping to care for numerous nieces and grandchildren.

After living in Los Gatos for 22 years, she moved to Tuolumne County in 1988.

She enjoyed playing cards, board games, dancing and calling bingo. 

She took pleasure in being outdoors and tending her garden and enjoyed finding items at yard sales which she could fix up and paint. 

She was an avid reader, crocheter and San Francisco Giants fan. 

Mrs. Pyzer was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Virginia Bettis; sister, Marie Myers; brothers, Howard, Lee and Edgar Bettis; and her husband of 28 years, Lloyd E. Pyzer, in 1985.

She is survived by her twin sister, Dorothy Hook, of Carlsbad; children, Tim Pyzer, of Coarsegold, Lloyd Pyzer, of Pleasanton, and Kimstar Knowles, of Twain Harte; grandchildren Rick Pyzer, Jason Pyzer, Kristofer Pyzer, all of Fresno, Joshua Pyzer, of Las Vegas, Nev., Jeremy Pyzer, of Boulder City, Nev., Devin Pyzer, of Pleasanton, Nicolas Huff, of Sonora, Tobin Huff, of Sonora, Lacey Huff, of Sonora, and Skyler Hebert, of Groveland; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bruce Smith

June 29, 1957 — Sept. 9, 2013

Lifelong Tuolumne County resident Bruce Smith died Sept. 9 at his home in Jamestown. He was 56.

Mr. Smith was born in Sonora to John and Judith Smith and graduated from Sonora High School in 1975.

He worked as an electrician and did general contracting work throughout the county for the past 25 years. 

Mr. Smith was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and E Clampus Vitus, Matuca Chapter 1849.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his brother, Nathan Smith, in 1977.

He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Smith, of Garden Valley, and Rebecca Smith, of Sonora; his mother, Judith Halbert, of Sonora; his father, John Smith, of Garden Valley; and his sister, Cindy Shaffer, of Jamestown; nieces, nephews and a great-niece and great-nephew. 

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 28 at the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Posse Grounds, 19130 Rawhide Road, Jamestown.
