Flora L. ‘Flory’ Guzman

June 18, 1962 — Aug. 27, 2013

Tuolumne City resident Flora L. ‘Flory’ Guzman died Aug. 27 at Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto. She was 51.

Mrs. Guzman was born Flora L. Granados in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico, to Abel and Margarita Granados.

She married Ramon Guzman in Nov. 27, 1980, and they moved to Tuolumne County.  

She was a homemaker and raised three children with her husband. 

She worked as a kitchen aid at Jamestown Elementary School for seven years. 

She enjoyed camping and playing volleyball with her family and watching her children play softball.

Mrs. Guzman was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Ramon Guzman, of Tuolumne; her children and their spouses, Jose and Jennifer Guzman, of Sonora, Abel and Nicole Guzman, of Tuolumne, and Susie and Jaime Casillas, of Tuolumne; grandchildren, Kylie Carr-Guzman, of Tuolumne, Victoria Guzman-Casillas, of Tuolumne, Jose Guzman, of Sonora, Iker Casillas, of Tuolumne, Kaydom Guzman, of Tuolumne, Dominic Guzman, of Sonora, and Alex Casillas, of Tuolumne.

A Mass of Christian burial was planned for 10 a.m. today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 127 W. Jackson St., Sonora. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. 

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. 

Gerald D. McCall   

Dec. 14, 1931 — Aug. 26, 2013

Blue Lake Springs resident Gerald D. McCall died Aug. 26 at his home. He was 81.

Mr. McCall was born in Marshall, Okla., to Harlan H. and Bethel I. McCall.

He graduated from Marysville Union High School in 1950. 

After, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as a gunner’s mate on the USS Lake Champlain during the Korean War.  

He married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Smith, in March 1953. They settled in West Sacramento and raised three children, Donald, Lorna and Alan McCall.

After his military service, he began a sheet-metal apprenticeship in 1954. He worked in the field for 38 before retiring as a shop foreman. 

He enjoyed wood working, specifically scroll work. 

Mr. McCall was a member of Scepter Masonic Lodge 808 and served as master twice. He also received the Hiram Award in 1980.  

Mr. McCall and his wife settled in Blue Lake Springs in Arnold in 2000. There he joined Ophir Bear Mountain Masonic Lodge 33, Arnold SIRs 152 and Ebbetts Pass Elves and Masonic Gold Panners RV Group Chapter 154.  

Mr. McCall was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, John Vance McCall.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie McCall, of Blue Lake Springs; his children, Don McCall, of Saunderstown, R.I., Lorna McCall, of Murphys, and Alan McCall, of Napa;  his grandchildren, Courtney McCall and Hailey McCall, of Rhode Island, Jenna Seim and Kailey Seim, of Murphys, Claire McCall and Joseph McCall, of Napa; and sister, Irene Townsend, of Oroville.  

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Snowflake Lodge, Blue Lake Springs, Arnold.  A second service and burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.

Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
