The Rim Fire has grown to 105,620 acres as of this morning. It was spreading in most directions, with a northern emphasis. Containment was 1 percent.

Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor Susan Skalski on Thursday evening signed an order closing the Groveland Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest, due to the Rim Fire.

The order is in effect until the fire is deemed extinguished. It forbids:

• Going into or being upon any National Forest System land within in the Rim Fire Closure Area," the order says.

• Being on any Forest Road within the Rim Fire Closure Area, or on Road 1N07 from Forest Road 1N98 to the Rim Fire boundary.

People with permits and emergency personnel were exempted.

Violators can be fined $5,000 and/or face jail time of 6 months.

The cost to fight the blaze was estimated to be $5.4 million.
