Pine Mountain Lake residents early this afternoon were advised to evacuate their homes and take shelter at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora.

Shortly before noon, the direction of the Rim Fire changed and compromised one of the fire lines put in by firefighters, said Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesman Scott Johnson.
Sheriff’s deputies and Cal Fire are assisting PML residents, and the department is using Reverse 911 to notify homeowners.
The evacuation is not mandatory, but residents are being encouraged to leave.

In related matters:

• The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services has responded to a request for law enforcement aid for the Rim Fire. Sacramento area law enforcement were en route to assist as of 2:30 p.m. How many officers were coming or from what agencies was not known, according to Sgt. Scott Johnson of the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office.

• Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office at 2:30 p.m. announced PG&E is in the process of shutting off power on Ferretti Road, from Highway 120 to Clements Road, as well as areas surrounding the Pine Mountain Lake airport.

• The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office about 2 p.m. called for evacuations of Camp Mather and Evergreen Lodge again, saying "we definitely want people out of that area. The Sheriff's Office has dispatched Yosemite National Park crews to begin another wave of advisory evacuations for Mather and Evergreen, as law enforcement are stretched so thin," said Sgt. Scott Johnson.
