Hedgpeth wins again at CYSSA US Open

Sonora High’s Zane Hedgpeth finished off the California Youth Shooting Sports Association season strong by winning his second consecutive trap title at the 3rd annual CYSSA U.S. Open held from July 10-13 in Las Vegas.

Hedgpeth finished tied for first overall out of 115 competitors in the Varsity division by hitting 199 of 200 targets at the Clark County Shooting Complex. He then won his shoot-off against David Sanborn, of Sutter.

Mother Lode Gun Club shooter Dylan Hicks got off to a great start in the Intermediate Advanced division, hitting 100 straight targets the first day.

During the second day of competition, Hicks shot a 98 to finish tied for second with Derek Worell, of Los Banos, who topped Hicks in a shoot-off 25-24 in the second round.

Between Hedgpeth and Hicks, only five targets were missed out of 500.

Hick’s effort helped his IA team take third place in the division with 917 out of 1000.

Mother Lode shooter Colton Vines finished seventh in IA with a 191.

Billy Burdick shot a 193 out of 200 to lead the Gold Country Shooters, of San Andreas, to first place in the IA division with 932 out of 1,000.

Also for Gold Country, John Judd was 10th with 188, Natalie Holt was 11th with 185 and Charity Goldsmit-Ding was 12th with 184.

In the Intermediate Entry Level division, Gold Country shooters Wyatt Hamilton was ninth with a 184, George Hubbs was 10th with a 183 and Faith Pendergras was 11th with 182.

Marshall Dilley led Mother Lode by finishing 12th with a 181.

Brock Quindimil, of Gold Country, led the locals in the Rookie division with a sixth-place finish (153).

Also for Gold Country, Tommy Brown was eighth with 144.

Mother Lode 9-year old Cooper Hildebrand finished ninth with a personal best 144.
