Pearl Mary (Guisto) Cosgrave

Dec. 17, 1921 — June 20, 2013 

Altaville resident Pearl Mary (Guisto) Cosgrave died June 20 at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital in San Andreas. She was 91.

Mrs. Cosgrave was born in Angels Camp, the youngest of three children born to Gerolamo and Adelina Guisto.

She attended Altaville Grammar School and Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp and Humphreys College in Stockton. 

She married David E. Cosgrave, of Altaville, in 1941. They ran Cosgrave Ranch outside of Altaville.

Mrs. Cosgrave was preceded in death by her parents, Adelina and Gerolamo Giusto; her husband, David E. Cosgrave; and her brothers, Nick and John Giusto.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, David N. and Mary Jane Cosgrave, of Angels Camp, Diana and Ron Lewis, of Angels Camp, and Lauren Ann and Walter Hill, of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 

Donations in her memory can be made to the Humane Society or the Calaveras Historical Society P.O. Box 721 San Andreas, CA 95249, or a charity of choice.

A private service will be held.

Janet (Leeds) Geisselsoder

Sept. 17, 1931 — July 5, 2013

Sonora resident Janet (Leeds) Geisselsoder died July 5 at family home in Sonora. She was 81.

Mrs. Geisselsoder was born in Los Angeles. 

She was a microbiologist and earned her bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College, her master’s degree from University of California, Berkeley, and her doctorate from the University of Hawaii. 

Mrs. Geisselsoder taught at Harvard University in the 1980s. 

She moved to Berkeley and worked at Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc. in Richmond for 25 years before retiring in 1997. 

She was interested in environmental issues and enjoyed science and outdoor activities.

Mrs. Geisselsoder was preceded in death by her brothers, Daniel Leeds, in 1981, and James Leeds, in 1975. 

She is survived by her nephews, James and Michael Leeds, both of Sonora.

Mishale Fisher

Dec. 31, 1975 — July 6, 2013

Sonora resident Mishale Fisher died July 6 at her home. She was 37.

Ms. Fisher was born in Thailand and came to the United States with her family when she was 6 weeks old. 

She settled in Tuolumne County 11 years ago and worked as social worker the past three years.

She enjoyed making jewelry and was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

Ms. Fisher was preceded in death by her father, Henry Fisher. 

Ms. Fisher is survived by her partner, Chris D. Mills, of Sonora; her mother, Khan Krejch, of Highland; her children, Henry Farnsworth and Emily Mills, both of Sonora; and sister, Jeanette Krejch, of Highland.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. today at Heuton Memorial Chapel, 400 S. Stewart St., Sonora.

Phillip Kendrick 

July 4, 1934 — July 4, 2013

Sonora resident Phillip Kendrick died July 4 at Oak Terrace Memory Care in Soulsbyville. He was 79.

Mr. Kendrick was born in Oakland. 

He spent of his life in the Bay Area before settling in Sonora 26 years ago.  

He worked as a truck driver for 40 years. 

He was a member of the Teamsters Union and E Clampus Vitus, Matuca Chapter 1849. He enjoyed building cars.

Mr. Kendrick is survived by his wife of 53 years, Juanita Kendrick, of Sonora; his daughters, Christian Kendrick, of Sonora, and Shannon Kendrick, of South Lake Tahoe; and grandsons, Danny Gearing, of Sonora, and Roland Howe, of South Lake Tahoe.

No services are planned and a private burial will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Ukiah.

John Timothy Meagher

April 29, 1944 — July 9, 2013

Jamestown resident John Timothy Meagher died Tuesday at his home. He was 69.

Mr. Meagher was born in Merced to John and June Meagher.

He was raised in Mariposa County and served in the military during the Vietnam War.

He settled in Jamestown 27 years ago after marrying Sandi Rickson-Hart. He was a bronc riding champion in the 1962 Mother Lode Roundup.

Mr. Meagher worked as a construction inspector and surveyor across the United States. He began working on the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir for the City and County of San Francisco in 1982. He retired in 2006.

He was a member of the Sonora Elks Lodge and enjoyed hunting, fishing and cutting wood.

Mr. Meagher was preceded in death by his mother, June Meagher, in 2010; and brother, Patrick Meagher, in 1998.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sandi Meagher, of Jamestown; father, John “Tuck” Meagher, of Mariposa;  daughter, Amber Chambers, of Mariposa; stepdaughters, Bonnie Kolpack, of Sonora, and Deena Morton, of Glendale, Ariz.; adopted son, Matt Klein, of Colorado; grandchildren, Alexis, Sammie and Bradley Chambers, of Mariposa, and step-grandchildren, Christian Noren, of San Diego, Nicole Kolpack, of Apple Valley, and Hank Kolpack, of Sonora.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday and Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora, a potluck will follow at the Elks Lodge. For reception information, call Fayma Fulkerson at 984-3388.
