Fast times at 2nd TCA mini-meet

A high number of swimmers turned out for Tuolumne County Aquatics second mini-meet of the summer season on June 25 at Sonora Sports and Fitness Center.

Not only did the event draw a large number swimmers, but also a multitude of parent volunteers. Many fast times and team records were set by 49 competitors.

Fourteen-year-old Sam Slater led the way for TCA by breaking a seven-year old record. Slater swam the 50 freestyle in 25.89, breaking Allie Freer’s 2006 record by .26 seconds. Slater also topped her personal best in the 50 backstroke.

Seven standout swimmers achieved best times in all four events. They were Gabby McRee, 12, David Pish, 10, Sophia Vasquez, 9, Carter Peterson, 9, Julian Pimentel, 9, Sarah Azevedo, 8, and Jackson Teem, 8.

Swimmers accomplishing three best times included Simon Mills, 13, Rajah Foerstner, 12, Halee Eaton, 11, Annaliese Haugen, 11, Alec Hawks, 11, Joseph Ardon, 10, Megan Slater, 10, Dylan Ablin, 9, Paxton Anderson, 9, John Crawford, 9, Anya Haugen, 9, Ella Boone, 8, and Isabella Bouchoucha, 8. 

Swimming two personal bests were Addie McIlroy, 10, Amanda Teem, 10, Lillian Aldridge, 8, Jessica Popke, 8, Brody Barr, 7, Paige Tipton, 7, Cruz Vasquez, 7, and TCA’s youngest swimmer 6-year-old Elizabeth Crawford.

TCA swimmers Trevor Mills, 13, Ricky Crawford, 11, Laurel Renner, 10, Albert Bolter, 9, Frank Russell, 9, and Tyler Willson, 8, all achieved one personal best time.

Five swimmers had substantial drops of 10 or more seconds, including Boone, Eaton, Haugen, Hawks and Simon Mills.

Making their TCA mini meet debut were Norman Aldridge, 11, Ian Harvey, 11, Saul Harrelson, 9, Wyatt Kern, 9, Jackson Pilchard, 9, and Olivia McRee, 7.

The TCA swimmers will compete in two more mini-meets this summer. The athletes’ hard work will be showcased at the beginning of August at the TCA Invitational meet and end of the summer meet will draw over 250 swimmers to the Sonora Sport and Fitness pool for the two-day event.
